Williams Expresses Confidence in Securing the Necessary Votes for Speaker Position

In the run-up to the House GOP's secret-ballot vote, Republican Representative Roger Williams, who is vying for the role of Speaker, presented his pitch to the conference. He expressed his confidence that a member of the House GOP can garner the requisite votes on the House floor to become the Speaker of the House.

Williams, who also serves as the chair of the House Small Business Committee, emphasized that his pitch was grounded in a business-oriented approach. "My whole pitch was a business pitch. I’m a business guy. Still own a business," he told CNN.

When questioned about the threshold for the nominee's support within the conference, Williams indicated that if a nominee comes close to the 217-vote threshold, they should proceed to a floor vote. "It’s nice if you can have it, but you get close, I think you probably need to go see what’ll happen. We’ve had a lot of things happen in the last four days. And 217 is hard to get to. But somebody, we’ve got somebody in that room I firmly believe can get to 217," stated the Texas Republican.

In response to whether he himself can secure the required 217 votes, Williams expressed his determination, saying, "Well, that’s why I’m running. I think I can. But we’ll see."

As the GOP conference approaches its secret-ballot vote for the Speaker nomination, Rep. Roger Williams remains confident in the prospects of a successful outcome, underlining his business acumen as a key asset in his bid for the position. The vote, scheduled for Tuesday night, will reveal who the House Republicans believe is the best fit for the critical role of Speaker.
