Ukrainians are at risk of disease and becoming homeless as a result of a burst dam.
(TWN) - On June 7 - Ukrainians fled waterlogged homes on Wednesday as floodwaters swept across the south after the damage of the massive Kakhovka dam on the front lines between Russian and Ukrainian forces, with their presidents sharing blame for the calamity.
Residents were forced to flee their homes after a dam breach caused a flood in the south of Ukraine, taking their families, children, and pets in their arms and valuables in plastic bags, while rescuers used rubber boats to seek regions where the waters were over head height.
The media has reported that the flood will affect thousands of people, leave them without access to drinking water, smother food and necessities of life, drown tens of thousands of hectares of agricultural land, and turn at least 500,000 hectares deprived of irrigation into "deserts".
Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the president of Ukraine, stated in a video message that it was hard to foresee how many people would die as a result of the floods in Russian-occupied areas. He urged a "clear and rapid reaction from the world" to support victims.
